You know what’s wrong? It’s wrong that millions of websites and blogs even the ones that are on top of the list still didn’t mobilize their websites.

Millions of people from work, home and anywhere in the world are browsing Internet via their mobile devices yet webmasters still don’t see the benefit of mobilizing the website.

I really hate the fact that when I go to some “popular” tech blog and I have to wait till site loads, then I have to pinch-zoom-in to read the content. For wordpress bloggers it takes literally 20 seconds to mobilize their blogs: I use wp-touch..its an awesome wordpress plugin that can difirentiate the visitors, whether they are browsing from Some Tablet, Smartphone or Desktop PC.

When I look at some of my sites that received millions of pageviews, 15-25% of traffic came from mobile devices!

Don’t be stupid and wait 5 years till you realize that you can help your mobile visitors read your content faster and easier.

Get wp-touch if you are on wordpress, if you have some other CMS platform, lookup how to mobilize your website. Or pay $200 some offshore developer to mobilize your website. Trust me it’s worth it, and people like me will love to come back and read your content.

For past few years my predictions in technology were 90% accurate and spot on the release dates for gadgets.  Just recently my iOS 5 predictions were 100% accurate and lets hope that iOS 5 release date prediction is also going to be spot on.

iOS 5 Release Date Predictions

iOS 5 Beta 4 – July 25th

iOS 5 Final Release – Late August

According to what I see in tech industry and how things are moving around, iOS 5 should be released to public in late August. To be more specific I am thinking August 22nd.  It does not really take any special sense to predict those dates, basically I compared how apple worked out previous iOS 3-4 releases and apply that same knowledge to iOS 5.

IBM researches predicted that in next 5 years there are going to be devices which will be able to display holographic images. I totally support that prediction because I predicted that about 4 months before they even release that news to the world.  Bad thing about such predictions is that there is two things that can happen to me : If predictions of mine are correct I get to be called , genius.. but if they are incorrect, I get to be called an Idiot…Oh well! Ill take my chances whether I was right or wrong.

So far all my predictions are 90% accurate in IT world.

This July 4th I took some awesome pictures of fireworks with my D5000 camera with my 18-55MM lens. After reading few of articles on how to setup Nikon D5000 to photograph fireworks, I learned a lot about the colors, aperture and shutter.

My Nikon D5000 Settings

  • Manual Mode also known as (M)
  • F13-F22 – Aperture was set between F13-F22 depends on how near I shot the fireworks
  • Shutter Speed was set to between 2-4
  • Focus on the lens I set up manual

Speaking of Focus, I would strongly advice to put it in manual mode vs automatic, because when you put it on automatic, you will lose a lot of time and fireworks between the shots.

Here are some of my pictures that I took this July 4th in Urbandale, Iowa

As you can see above some shots are good some bit bad, that’s why changing the aperture between F13 and F22 helped a lot, I left the shutter speed between 2-4 as I mentioned above. I took 233 pictures which you can see the rest of them on my flickr account. Am not profesional photographer but if you leave comments below I will respond to whatever questions you have in mind.

We are few hours away from experiencing the 4th of July fireworks, while looking up online for some DSLR Tips I stumbled upon on few sites that give great tips on how to take pictures of fireworks.

My favorite post about taking pictures of fireworks  is from friend of mine Darren Rowse, who is also very known among professional bloggers like my self. In the link below you will find almost everyhing you need to know about taking picture of Fireworks.

How to Photograph Fireworks Displays

My second favorite is from Photo Kaboom, has lots of tips and tricks on photography – but bit too confusing to read…

Fireworks > DSLR Cameras

And my top resource which comes from Ken Rockwell who is one of the well known and experienced photographers. In his post below he describes a lot of useful information just like Darren Rowse does.

Photographing Fireworks

Hope you like my limited resources on how to photograph fireworks. I tested Darren’s tips last year and worked perfectly!

Here are some of my @8035 Instagram pictures I took with iPhone, must say that Instagram still works with iOS 5 Beta 2. #8035 is yearly music festival in Des Moines, Iowa where you can see some new and popular bands playing for 2 days.

Anyway,

Just wanted to share some of my latest pictures I took.

What is your focus for 2011 in Blogosphere? Search Engine Traffic or Readership? After small fight with Google I came to conclusion that readership is way better than receiving search engine traffic.

After Google took MWD off from Google News (For no apparent reason) MWD traffic went down for 12% and to be honest in some way I am glad they did here is why.

  • I was forced to let few people go that did not perform good in English grammar
  • Hired Proof Reader (Editor)
  • My entire focus now is on building readers and loyal visitors (people that stop by every day)
  • Changed the layout for better look and feel

You can say that sometimes negative impact on blogs like one I own (270.000 unique visitors) could be turned into positive future.

Search Engine Traffic is good am not saying that it isn’t, but if you own blog you also should focus to keep at least 10% of new monthly visitors as your loyal visitors.

Readership in my opinion is always better because they:

  • Know who the authors and content contributors are
  • Read your blog every day
  • Recommend your blog to others
  • Subscribe to Newsletter
  • Retweet on Twitter and press LIKE on Facebook

What you don’t get with readership is the income you might expect, because your readers also know where your ads are displayed, and most likely they already clicked on the ads long time ago.

Basically what I am trying to say is that not only you should focus on rich keywords, search engine optimization and search engine traffic but also on making your visitors come back for some quality content, interaction and more.

Does that make sense?

See at JoeHobot I don’t have any ads displayed and I  never will, but my passion to write every now and then comes from loyal visitors that I know in person or we interacted online. I love to help people build something I already built years ago and share my thoughts and experience, whether it’s  physical, emotional or technological.

Again, thanks for stopping by, I hope you found this article interesting enough to share with others.

Back in September I wrote depending on Google and other search engine traffic might bite you sooner or later. Well I have been bitten by Google News team and I must say that came quite un-expected.

My business blog MWD was listed in Google News and after 1 year they send me this:

Upon reviewing your site, http://www.mwd.com/, we found that we can no
longer include it in Google News at this time. We have certain guidelines
in place regarding the quality of sites which are included in the Google
News index.

There was no explanation why they removed it except the link to their guidelines which MWD was following all along. So what will happen to MWD now? Well after reviewing traffic for 2010 out of 2.7 Million pageviews we only got 350.000 from Google News the rest of the traffic was coming from Google Web search and other search engines. Sure it will impact my traffic but still its not end of the world to get back to where I was before.

Reason I am writing this to you is because you could learn thing or two.

  • Don’t depend on 1 or 2 sources of incoming traffic
  • Always search for new sources
  • Bing, Yahoo, Forums, Back Links from others, Social Media (Twitter, Facebook)
  • Add your website to known directories
  • Don’t make your competitor an enemy, be friends with them and help each other
  • Talk to people via Social Media that are relevant to your website
  • Even though Google did not state why they removed MWD from Google News, I have certain feeling that one or few top blog owners did not like how MWD ranked for specific keywords. Yesterday when iPhone 4 for Verizon news was released I wrote an article explaining when people will be able to buy iPhone 4 etc.. that article alone made over bit over 15.000 pageviews and was ranking No.1 for keywords like iPhone 4 verizon, Verizon iPhone 4 release date etc… I am pretty sure that top blog owners looked if they rank high enough, and found out that MWD outranked them, and since most of them know Google PR, Google Employees it is easy for them to just say: Cut him off.

Am I worried? Not really nor should you in case that ever happens to you, as I said above search for different alternatives and don’t depend on one source of incoming traffic.

Well folks it was fun writing this, hope you had fun reading it too.

Recently I have been getting lots of traffic from Facebook and to be honest I did not even register that I could triple the amount of visits. Basically I created Facebook Fan (Community) pages for devices I love! Like for an example Samsung Galaxy S, I have bit over 800 fans there, then I created for T-Mobile G2 and have bit over 300 fans there.  I have 8 Facebook fan pages created and total of Fans = 7500+ for all pages. Each time I would post something on http://mwd.com regarding the topic I would share the link with fans, so I am really not spamming them because I share other blog url’s too.

Daily I get about 200-300 visits depending on if I share the link or not. Now imagine if I would create 40 Facebook fan pages? That’s about 2000-3000 visits of targeted audience right there. Thing is, who will manage all 40 pages and share items?

I rather stick with 8 pages that I know I can give quality content, to the audience.

Anyway, I thought I would share that info in case you have blog and you are trying to build quality readership.
